Best of Luck to John and the Irish Hockey Squad in Rio 2016

JohnAshton past pupil John Jermyn realised the Olympic hockey dream shared by many after being chosen for the Irish squad for Rio.  He begins Ireland’s Olympic quest on Saturday, 6th August 2016, when Ireland will play India at 3.00 p.m.

A year ago Ireland came through an arduous qualifying campaign to rightly claim a berth among the world’s hockey elite. Ireland sits in Pool B alongside world number two ranked Netherlands, defending Olympic champions Germany, Argentina, India, and Canada.

John’s achievement is incredible.  At 34 and with 163 caps to his name he had not played for Ireland from September 2012 to April 2016 but has in the last six months made his way into the Olympic side.

Ashton School and Board of Management wishes John and the Irish squad every success in achieving the dream!
