Bronze medal for Diarmuid O’Donoghue at International Chemistry Olympiad

Congratulations are extended to Diarmuid O’Donoghue, 6th year at Ashton, on his amazing achievement at being awarded a Bronze medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad, held mid – July in Thailand.  Science teacher Ms. Margaret Buggy was ‘thrilled’  with Diarmuid’s  success.  She has taught Diarmuid through Junior Cycle Science, Leaving Certificate Chemistry, and actively encouraged him as he prepared for this prestigious international competition.

Earlier in the year, he was awarded a Silver medal in the Irish Chemistry Olympiad held in DCU, and subsequently was selected to be part of a four person team representing Ireland.  This meant simultaneously working on Leaving Cert. preparation with his peers at Ashton in June, encouraged and supported by his parents, teachers, Principal Mr. Landen, Deputy Principal Ms. Hewison.

What an achievement for an unassuming student, the only Republic of Ireland student to win such an award this year.  Par excellence!

We congratulate Diarmuid, Ms. Buggy, and his proud parents.
