Concern Cheque Presentation

concern fast 2016

L-R Back Row: Ms. Roberts, Mr. Carey, Cian Dillon, Roisin Dorney, Mr. Scanlon. L-R Front: Maebh Coakley, Claire Marshall Concern, Tara Cronin, Ms. Desmond.

Ashton Transition Year students carried on the tradition of a 24-hr fast to raise funds for Concern and Christian Aid.  A group of four pupils Maebh Coakley, Tara Cronin, Cian Dillon and Roisin Dorney organised the event and almost 40 pupils took part.  The pupils fasted for 24 hours, stayed in school overnight,  and had a breakfast together early on Friday morning.  They worked a normal day in school, and understood the challenge of being hungry and tired, yet still having to do a full days study.  Students went home to their beds on Friday tired and hungry, as many many people do in countries right across the world.   Mr. Scanlon, who, along with staff in Ashton inspired students to participate in this worthwhile activity many years ago, thanked students and staff for their ongoing support. Ms. Desmond, Mr. Carey, and Ms.Roberts did the honours along with Mr. Scanlon supervising on the ‘LONG NIGHT’ of the fast.  Patient, resilient and good-humoured to the last! Claire Marshall Concern, was greatly appreciative of students work in getting sponsorship and raising money for projects  across the world, supported by the work of Concern.

Róisin Dorney, Maebh Coakley, Cian Dillon and Tara Cronin presented Claire Marshall with the cheque for Concern at Assembly recently, greeted with much applause from the student cohort.

Congratulations to everyone involved in a most worthwhile activity.
