bishop 2015Leaving Certificate results were received with relief and joy by hard-working students and their parents in mid-August. Mr. Landen congratulated all students, complimenting them on their examination success, and wished them well as they now embark on new and interesting areas of study and training.

The Graduation Evening was held recently at the Rochestown Park Hotel, with a full attendance of graduated students enjoying a most sociable and amiable evening together, before they depart in different directions to take up third level courses. As always, the colourful dresses, and neat apparel of students added to the sense of occasion of this event in their lives. Another step in the forward motion of life. We wish them well in their future plans.

Ashton Open Day was held on Sept 18th, when classrooms displayed their work on various subject areas. All classrooms were beautifully decorated and presented with a focus on the excellent work of students.

First Year Parents Information Evening was held on Thurs. Sept. 17th when the Principal Mr. Landen, and members of teaching staff, spoke to prospective students and their parents on the curriculum at Ashton, subject choice, sports and extra curricular activities.

The Opening Assembly of the school year was addressed by Bishop Paul Colton who welcomed all students on their return to school for another academic year. He also congratulated the Head Girl Ali Lynch, and Head Boy Stephen Jermyn on their new roles for the coming year, as they support students and lead by example for the entire student cohort. An onerous role which we wish them luck with.

A group of Spanish students from Barcelona along with two teachers, visited Ashton recently as part of their stay in Cork studying the English language and culture of our city.   They spent time in class with Transition Year students and developed good friendships in a short time.
