Students are animated,  and music fills the corridors of Ashton during Seachtain na Gaeilge, which this year has added momentum, as the date coincides closely with Proclamation Day and the commemorative ceremonies occurring nationwide, emphasising the importance of the Irish language and culture for us all.

Tráth na gCeist, Ceoil, Damhsa, Duaiseanna go leor, agus an Seomra Caidrimh, Gaeilge á labhairt am lóin, are only some of the exciting activities taking part throughout the school.   The school becomes a ‘riot of colour’, with posters and meaningful quotes in full display. Students and staff participate fully. The Irish Department co-ordinate the whole-school event, subsequent to meticulous planning, and foresight.

Assembly at Ashton, on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day does the subject ‘Gaeilge’ justice, with a huge number of student led music, song and dance presentations, with a particularly outstanding and unique Irish rendition of the famous song ‘Wagon Wheel’. Uplifting, innovative and inspiring.

Kate Sampson in Second Year, has just returned from participation in the Imperial Ballet Awards in London, where she competed against contestants worldwide, and acquitted herself with style. She performed a ballet dance to Irish music, which showed enormous skill and poise.   Buíochas le gach éinne. An Ghaeilge abú!
