Ashton Matters February 2026
The Ashton School Players lit up the stage from 27th–29th January with a high-energy production of Legally Blonde JR. The show proved to be an outstanding success and a true celebration of talent and dedication.
Performing to packed audiences each evening, the cast delivered a confident and polished performance that had the crowd laughing and cheering. From the opening number to the show-stopping finale, the energy in the venue was electric as students brought this much-loved story to life with humour and heart.
Legally Blonde JR. tells the story of Elle Woods, whose journey from underestimated college student to Harvard Law star is one of resilience and empowerment. This inspiring message shone through in Ashton’s production, with the cast embracing their roles wholeheartedly. The lead performances from Rianna Filipino and Lucas Schoenmakers were charismatic and heartfelt, capturing Elle’s and Emmet’s determination and charm. The supporting cast provided outstanding vocal performances, slick choreography and impeccable comedic timing.
The whole cast of the show showed boundless enthusiasm. Large musical numbers were executed with confidence and flair, showcasing the depth of talent within the school. The choreography was sharp and energetic, while the harmonies demonstrated countless hours of rehearsal and commitment.
Behind the scenes, the dedication of Mr. Drew Ruttle, Mr. Kevin Carey and the production team was equally evident. From the vibrant costumes and the creation of the set to the seamless scene changes and professional lighting and sound design. Every detail contributed to a polished and engaging performance. The transformation of the stage from a Californian campus to the halls of Harvard was handled with incredible creativity.
Above all, the success of Legally Blonde JR. reflects the strong tradition of drama and the arts at Ashton School. The production not only entertained but also demonstrated the confidence, camaraderie and spirit of the students involved. It was a joyful reminder of what can be achieved when young performers are given the opportunity to shine.
A very sincere thank you to Mr Ruttle for all the hard work he put into making this show happen. From organising rehearsals to staying back after school and giving up so much of his own time, his commitment did not go unnoticed. He supported and encouraged the students every step of the way, and his energy and belief in them helped bring out the very best in everyone involved.
