Accounting
Accounting involves recording, analysing and interpreting financial information. Students will ultimately be tested in a single 3 hour exam. The paper consists of 3 sections with a choice of questions in each section which makes the exam student friendly. Accounting is divided in 2 sections Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Students who intend pursuing courses in business at Third Level would be strongly advised to study Accounting as it confers a great advantage.
Students who think logically and learn best by doing will be well suited to the subject. There are some theory chapters/topics but the vast majority of topics are numerically based. Higher level Maths is not an essential requirement in order to do higher level Accounting but being comfortable with numbers is obviously an advantage.
Many of our former Accounting students go on to have very successful careers in the area of Accounting and Finance and we are delighted to have as one of our past pupils the youngest Professor ever appointed in University College Cork. Many of the Ashton Hall of Fame winners also studied Accounting and have gone on to careers in Physics and Mathematics and Medicine!!!!
