Ashton Matters May 2026
Sports Assembly
Ashton School recently held its Annual Sports Assembly, an important occasion in the school calendar which celebrates the achievements, dedication, and sporting successes of students throughout the year. The assembly brought together students and staff to recognise not only individual accomplishments, but also the values of commitment, teamwork, and school spirit that sport helps to develop here in Ashton School
A particular highlight of the event was the recognition of students who had the honour of representing Ireland across a range of sports. Their achievements are a source of great pride for the entire Ashton community and reflect the hard work, determination, and talent of these young athletes. Their success serves as an inspiration to fellow students and demonstrates the opportunities that dedication and effort can create.
The school also celebrated a number of students with special awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sport throughout the year. Congratulations were extended to Junior Sports-boy of the Year, Jody Bateman, Junior Sports-girl of the Year, Leah O’Leary Callender, Senior Sports-boy of the Year, Eoin Fitzpatrick, and Senior Sports-girl of the Year, Emily Armitage. Each student was recognised not only for sporting achievement, but also for leadership, commitment, and positive contribution to school life.
Ashton School also wishes to acknowledge and thank the PE Department for their continued hard work and dedication. Through their encouragement and support, students are given opportunities to participate, compete, and develop both on and off the field.
The Annual Sports Assembly was a wonderful celebration of sporting excellence and a reminder of the strong sense of community and achievement that exists within Ashton School.
Induction Day
Well done to all our incoming First Year students who attended Ashton for their Induction Day. Students got to experience a variety of lessons, meet some teachers, tour the school and experience what life as an Ashton student will be like when they join us in August 2026.
The day gave students an exciting opportunity to become familiar with their new school environment and to experience some of the subjects and activities that will be part of their journey in Ashton. Throughout the day, teachers introduced students to a range of engaging lessons and activities designed to give them a taste of school life and help them settle into their future surroundings.
Students took part in Science classes where they had the opportunity to explore fun and interactive activities, encouraging curiosity and learning. They also enjoyed Home Economics lessons where they got a chance to experience practical skills and gain an insight into another key part of school life. In addition, students participated in a lesson on the history of Ashton School, learning more about the school’s traditions, values and the sense of community that has shaped Ashton over the years.
For many students, the day was a first opportunity to meet future classmates and begin forming new friendships ahead of the new school year. There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the school, with great excitement and enthusiasm as students took part in the activities.
A sincere thank you to all the staff, teachers and students who helped make the day such a success. Their time, effort and support ensured that our incoming First Years had a welcoming and enjoyable introduction to Ashton School. We look forward to welcoming them back in August as they begin the next stage of their journey with us.
