Ashton Matters November 2025
Prize Day
Ashton School held its annual Prize Day with a passionate sense of pride as students, staff and families gathered to celebrate achievement across the entire school community.
The first set of awards honoured those who achieved the highest marks in individual subjects. These prizes reflected incredible effort and a keen sense of enthusiasm to better oneself in subjects across the school. Another important part of the ceremony focused on Significant Achievement Awards. These awards highlighted students who made meaningful progress in areas such as time management during exams, enthusiasm for learning and resilience in challenging moments.
Freya Fitzgerld was awarded with the Junior Student of the year, while Ciara Smith was awarded the Senior Student of the Year. These awards are given to individuals who represent the spirit of Ashton. Both recipients received warm congratulations from peers and staff, reflecting the enormous effort each student displayed.
The ceremony closed with a message of gratitude to families and teachers for their support and guidance. Prize Day acts as a reminder of the school’s commitment to recognising every kind of excellence. It celebrates the academic strength of the community while also honouring the personal qualities that shape thoughtful, confident young people.
Cologne
Ashton School’s Second Year German Exchange brought students to the vibrant city of Cologne, giving them a week filled with full immersion in the German language and cultural discovery. Students received the experience of daily life in Germany through the warmth of their host families and the welcome of the partner school, Lessing Gymnasium.
Students attended classes with their German partners, which gave them first-hand experience of the school system and plenty of chances to use their German in everyday conversations. Teachers noted that many students grew more confident each day.
Evenings were spent with host families, where students discovered German meals, routines, and different customs. Many said this was the part of the exchange that helped them truly understand everyday life in Cologne. Families remarked on how quickly the students settled in and how easily friendships formed.
By the end of the visit, it was clear that the exchange had achieved exactly what Ashton School hopes for: stronger language skills and lifelong memories. Well done to all who took part.
Curry Night
The Christian Union group continues to grow in popularity in Ashton School. One of the most popular events in the CU calendar is the Curry Night which was recently held in school. Over fifty Ashton students enjoyed an evening of fellowship together while cooking and enjoying a curry feast followed by desserts of ice cream and other goodies! Fun, games, laughter, and music then followed in the GPA. The focus later moved to a lively time of praise led by the CU band played and students listened to an inspiration talk from their guest speaker. All staff and students present can attest to a truly special and memorable evening together.
