Design and Communication Graphics
Design and Communication Graphics is the follow on Leaving Certificate subject of Junior Cycle Graphics.
It provides students with the opportunity for visualising and understanding information presented graphically.
Students build on the skills learned in Junior Cycle and learn newer more complex ones. These skills include graphicacy/graphic communication, creative problem solving, spatial abilities/visualisation, design capabilities, computer graphics and CAD modelling
It challenges a student to build on their problem solving and creative thinking skills as they use 2D and 3D graphics to solve complex problems.
What is the structure of DCG?
DCG can be categorized under these 3 sections:
- Board Drawing: The use of a drawing board, set squares and other instruments to complete and solve graphical problems on a drawing sheet. (Represented in 2D)
- Computer Aided Design: Using SolidWorks to create, assemble and render products and output a physical drawing sheet. (Represented in 2D and 3D)
- Sketching: The use of freehand sketching to represent Ideas and principles graphically. (Represented in 2D and 3D)
