Transition Year
Transition Year (TY) is a one-year programme between Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. It is designed to act as a bridge between the two by facilitating the smooth transition from the more dependent learning of Junior Cycle to the more independent self-directed learning required for Senior Cycle.
Students get the opportunity to assess and explore future educational needs by sampling a wide range of subject areas and can make more informed choices about the subjects they would like to study for Leaving Certificate and possible career paths for the future.
Transition Year is about personal development, embracing new challenges and looking ahead to the future. It offers students the time and space to mature, develop self-confidence and grow in independence. Students have opportunities to develop personal and social skills through a range of experiences beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom such as Work Experience and Community Action. It is truly an enriching and rewarding experience for all.
