Junior Cycle
Gaeilge

‘Tus maith, leath na hoibre’

We are mindful that students come to Ashton with varying levels of Gaeilge. Our aim in First Year is to provide a solid grounding in Irish while developing the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. From the outset, we encourage active participation in class and strive to create rich opportunities for learning Irish beyond the classroom and to foster a grá for the language. We firmly believe in the sentiment behind the proverb ‘Beatha teanga í a labhairt’, the life of a language is in the speaking of it. Our aim is to enable our students to achieve their best at every level and we are proud that a large number of our students undertake Higher Level in the Junior Cycle. Student achievements in Irish are acknowledged and celebrated at our annual Prize Day. Corn Mhic Uistin is the Junior award for competence in oral Irish.
