Art
Leaving Certificate

Leaving Cert Art students gain a sense of achievement, enjoyment and personal fulfilment as they learn. Senior cycle Art is presented in three interconnected strands: Research, Create and Respond, allowing the students to reflect on their own work and others. There are three assessment components: practical coursework, an invigilated examination and a written examination which will focus on a broad understanding of Visual Studies.

Many of Ashton’s Art students go on to pursue careers in the creative field and a knowledge and appreciation for Art is something all students carry with them through life.

‘Art in Ashton is a great experience. Our creative minds are nurtured and there are many resources provided to help us realise our ideas. Art is displayed around our school which brings a life to our corridors’. Roan O’ Boyle

‘Art history is also about understanding and researching art, knowing the facts so that you can write fluently about different art topics. I would definitely recommend this subject to anyone who is creative’. Doireann Magee – Salawu

‘The coursework and projects are very enjoyable and the subject allows you to be creative while learning new styles and techniques of Art’. Luke Marshall

‘Art is an outlet for expression within the school environment...’ Michael O’Connor
