Olé Olé Olé Spanish Language Win for Ashton Students

Ashton School students, Stephen Daunt and Adrian De Juan were delighted when they were deemed to have won second prize in the Post Primary Language Initiative, winning themselves and their teacher, Olan Geaney a week’s language scholarship in Salamanca in Spain, studying Spanish in a dedicated language school. The competition, open to all 5th year students of Spanish nationwide, involved the filming and editing of a Spanish language video in which students highlighted the attractions of Spain’s “Castilla y León ” region.

His Excellency Javier Garrigues, Spanish Ambassador to Ireland, presented the winning students with their scholarships on board the Spanish Naval Training ship, the ‘Juan Sebastián El Cano’. The ship had docked in Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin specially for the occasion, on its way from New York to Spain. Stephen Daunt, Adrian De Juan and Spanish Teacher Olan Geaney got a guided trip around the ship, which made it all the more unique.
