Ashton School Honours Clare Lawson with Hall of Fame Award 2025

On Wednesday, 12th March, Ashton School proudly welcomed back one of its most distinguished past pupils, Clare Lawson, to receive the prestigious Hall of Fame Award. This award recognises former Ashton students who have achieved remarkable success in their careers, excelled in sports, or made significant contributions to the world of arts and entertainment.

Clare attended Ashton from 1993 to 1998. Since qualifying as a solicitor in Ireland in 2007, she has built an impressive international legal career. She qualified and worked as an attorney-at-law in New York, further solidifying her legal expertise. In 2012, she earned a Master of Law degree from Columbia Law School, focusing on international and human rights law. Her expertise in these areas led her to work on behalf of the Irish government and the European Union at the United Nations in New York. Since 2013, Clare has been a key figure at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Currently, she serves as a Senior Prosecutor with the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office.

The Hall of Fame ceremony was a celebration of Clare’s inspiring journey, from her formative years at Ashton to her distinguished career on the global legal stage. Ashton’s Head Students, Zoe Fahy, Michael Turner, Sarah Chambers, and David Hrihorov, warmly welcomed Clare back to the school and expressed their appreciation for her visit. Students Saoirse Cullen and Eve McDonald read their reflections on human rights to the assembled audience, having won Ashton’s recent human rights essay competition. Their insightful contributions underscored the significance of the values that Clare has championed throughout her career. Ms. Savage and Ms. Manning presented them with their awards, recognizing their dedication to human rights advocacy.

Ashton’s Principal Adrian Landen spoke of Clare’s schooldays at Ashton, commending her for her academic excellence, unwavering determination, and drive to succeed. He remarked that Clare’s journey into the realm of international human rights and criminal justice is a testament to her personal dedication and commitment to truth and justice. He emphasized that her work embodies the core principles of human rights and the rule of law, making her an exemplary role model for current and future Ashton students.

During the ceremony, Clare shared memories of her time at Ashton, recalling the invaluable lessons and experiences that shaped her path. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the guidance and encouragement she received from her teachers, who played a pivotal role in inspiring her to strive for excellence and pursue her ambitions. Mr. John Deane, Chairperson of Ashton’s Board of Management, then presented Clare with her Hall of Fame award. The event concluded on a poignant note as the Ashton School Choir, under the direction of Dr. Mary G. O’Brien, performed the moving piece “A Gaelic Blessing” by John Rutter, adding a special touch to the occasion.

The Hall of Fame Award stands as a fitting tribute to Clare Lawson’s extraordinary contributions to the protection of human rights and the pursuit of justice. Her passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment were evident as she addressed the audience, leaving a lasting impression on all present. As she accepted the Hall of Fame Award for 2025, the entire Ashton School community—students, staff, parents, and the Board of Management—felt a profound sense of admiration and pride for this exceptional past pupil. Clare’s legacy will undoubtedly inspire generations of Ashton students to follow their dreams and make a meaningful impact on the world.
