Briefing for Parents on coronavirus COVID-19
Dear Parents,
Ashton School wishes to inform parents that any concerns which have been brought to the attention of the school in relation to coronavirus COVID-19 have been investigated by the school. The school is satisfied that the advice issued by the HSE has been followed in each case.
The school wishes to draw the attention of all members of the school community to the advice below. The advice is provided below for your convenience but should not be considered a substitute for checking up-to-date advice issued by the Department of Education and HSE.

Advice for those at risk…
- anyone who has been to an affected region (mainland China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Iran and four regions in northern Italy) in the last 14 days AND is experiencing symptoms should self-isolate and call their GP
- anyone who has been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days AND is experiencing symptoms should immediately self-isolate and call their GP.
- anyone who has been to an affected region in the last 14 days, and is well, should visit www.HSE.ie for advice.
Symptoms of COVID-19:
- a cough
- shortness of breath
- breathing difficulties
- fever (high temperature)
Self-isolate
- means going into a different, well-ventilated room alone, with a phone.
Close contact can mean:
- face-to-face contact
- spending more than 15 minutes within 2 metres of an infected person
- living in the same house or shared accommodation as an infected person.
Advice for all to reduce/prevent infection…
Do…
- Wash your hands properly and regularly
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze.
- Put used tissues into a bin and wash your hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Do not…
- touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
