Nutrition and healthy eating for First Years
On Wednesday 3rd of February, First Year students at Ashton attended a Nutrition and Healthy lifestyles event. The Student Council organized this event with help from Ms. Desmond, Mrs. Kerins, and was facilitated by Julie Desmond, Nutritional Therapist and Paediatric Nurse.
Students found it most beneficial. They learned about nutrients and vitamins, energy balance, good snacking habits, informed choices, emotional stress and its impact on how we eat, fluid intake, iron deficiency, and the enormous benefits of exercise for all aspects of young people’s health, amongst other things. Students were thoroughly engrossed from the outset, and the questions and answer session generated interesting queries, after which, each student was presented with a Certificate of Participation. A most worthwhile exercise, for which the Student Council deserve our congratulations in their leadership role.
