Retirement of Catherine Foley
Colleagues and staff at Ashton will miss Catherine Foley as she retires, especially her colleagues in the Science Department. She has been part of school life at Ashton for 34 years in her role as Biology and Chemistry teacher.
From Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, she went to U.C.D. in the 70’s where she graduated with a First Class Honours in Botany and Biochemistry in 1977, going on to do a Higher Diploma in Education in U.C.D. the following year. She taught Science and Maths in Scoil íde in Finglas, Dublin. In 1979 she moved to Bishopstown Community School in Cork, again teaching Science and Maths. In 1980 Catherine was appointed as Biology and Chemistry teacher at Ashton School, and subsequently also taught Maths. Being dynamic and diligent in her professional approach, she organised trips to Pfizers, Penn Chemicals, amongst many other interesting events for students, and more recently has introduced forensic investigation to the TY Chemistry module.
Mr. Landen , Principal, commended Catherine on her many achievements at Ashton, as she now looks forward to developing new interests and hobbies in her retirement.
A most convivial evening was held in the new Staffroom at Ashton, where Catherine was presented with a Bog Oak sculpture from the Board of Management. A presentation was also made to Catherine from the staff.
We wish Catherine health and happiness as she starts a new phase in her life. ‘Retirement may be an ending, a closing, but it is also a new beginning’.
