Right Reverend Bishop Paul Colton visits Ashton on his 25th year as Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

Right Reverend Bishop Paul Colton of Cork, Cloyne and Ross visits Ashton on 6th March, 2024.

Right Reverend Bishop Paul Colton visited Ashton on March 6th, 2024 in celebration of his 25th year as Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

Bishop Colton was welcomed to Assembly by Mr. Adrian Landen, Principal, assisted by Mr. Richard Lester, Deputy Principal, along with the students and staff.   Eoin Prendeville, Alison Olaniran,  Harry Jackson and Hazel O’Connell, Head Students, greeted Bishop Colton on behalf of the students. Eoin Prendeville spoke in welcome of Bishop Colton, and  Alison Olaniran presented him with a gift to mark the occasion.  The choir under the baton of Dr. Mary O’Brien sang a hymn and culminated with a beautiful rendition of ‘Festival Sanctus’.

This was followed by the planting of an Oak tree in the grounds of the school, and visits by Bishop Colton to classes and classrooms, bringing back many happy memories of his time at Ashton as a student.

Bishop Colton spoke with Leaving Certificate students, during an interesting question and answer session co-ordinated by Mr. Ruttle.   His very wise advice to the entire school cohort,  was to ‘make memories’ as they stay with us and sustain us throughout our lives.

A most convivial visit, enjoyed by everyone.  We congratulate Right Reverend Bishop Paul Colton on celebrating twenty five years as Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
